Help College-Bound Families. Strengthen Client Relationships. Create New Opportunities for Your Office.

Your clients already look to you for guidance during major life decisions. Preparing for college is one of the largest financial and emotional decisions many families will make.

Champion College Planning gives insurance agents, financial professionals, and tax professionals a trusted college-planning resource they can bring into the relationship without having to build the expertise or service inside their own office.

The Role of the Trusted Professional Is Changing

Insurance and financial services are becoming faster, more automated, and increasingly digital. Many routine transactions that once required a professional can now be completed online.

Technology and artificial intelligence can make transactions easier. They cannot sit with worried parents, understand the full situation, and help a family think through one of the biggest decisions it will make.

College planning creates that kind of human conversation.

Parents are not simply deciding where their child will attend college. They are trying to understand what they can afford, how college will affect the rest of their financial life, and whether they are making the right decision for their child’s future.

When an agent, advisor, or tax professional helps a family find answers to those questions, that professional becomes more than the person who handles a policy, account, or tax return. They become a trusted resource for the household.

At the same time, many professional offices are facing greater pressure to generate new business, serve more of each household, and demonstrate value beyond price. Champion College Planning provides a human-centered way to deepen existing relationships, connect with new families, and create additional opportunities.

What a Partnership Can Do for Your Office

Create More Meaningful Client Conversations

College planning provides a timely reason to reconnect with families outside of a traditional policy, portfolio, or tax review.

Instead of beginning with a product or transaction, the conversation starts with something the family already cares deeply about: their child’s future.

Strengthen Client Retention

The more legitimate needs a professional serves within a household, the stronger and more durable the client relationship is likely to become.

College planning creates an opportunity to better understand the household and identify needs involving insurance, cash flow, investments, retirement, taxes, college savings, and other financial services.

When a professional helps a family understand how those needs fit together, the relationship becomes about more than the price of an individual policy, product, or service.

Generate New Business Opportunities

College planning can help your office:

  • Reengage existing clients

  • Serve more needs within current households

  • Connect with the children and extended family members of existing clients

  • Attract new families through educational events

  • Create opportunities for appropriate insurance, tax, and financial-services conversations

  • Differentiate your office from competitors focused primarily on price or transactions

Add Expertise Without Adding Staff

Most insurance agencies, financial-planning practices, and tax offices do not have an in-house college-planning specialist.

Champion College Planning allows your office to provide access to that expertise without hiring, training, or building a new department.

Keep the Relationship With Your Office

Your client remains your client.

Champion College Planning focuses on college admissions, affordability, financial aid, and funding strategy. Insurance, investment management, tax planning, and comprehensive financial planning remain with the appropriate professional.

For Insurance Agencies

Bring More Value Into the Household Relationship

College is a major transition for the entire family. It can create natural reasons to review:

  • Life insurance and family protection

  • Auto coverage for a student who begins driving or leaves for college

  • Renters coverage for an apartment or off-campus housing

  • Umbrella and liability protection

  • Household cash flow

  • Available financial-service solutions

Champion College Planning helps the family understand the college side of the decision. Your office remains responsible for identifying and addressing the insurance and financial needs that fall within your expertise.

The goal is not simply to send a referral. It is to help your office become the place families turn when they need guidance.

Move the Conversation Beyond Price

A rate increase of a few dollars per month can put an entire client relationship at risk when the conversation is focused only on the monthly premium.

The standard response may be limited to, “I’m sorry, insurance rates went up.” The client then begins shopping and may leave the agency over a relatively small difference in price.

A broader conversation can uncover what is happening within the household, what financial pressures the family is facing, and which major life events are approaching. For families with college-bound children, college costs may be one of their largest concerns.

Champion College Planning gives the agent a practical resource to help address that concern. Instead of allowing the relationship to be defined by a small rate increase, the office can demonstrate that it understands the family’s bigger financial picture.

That broader understanding can also help the agent identify other legitimate needs within the household. As the agent serves more of the family’s insurance and financial needs, the relationship is more likely to deepen and become less vulnerable to a competitor offering a slightly lower price on one policy.

Create a Human Advantage

Technology can quote policies, process changes, and automate routine service. It cannot replace the empathy, judgment, and trusted guidance families need during an emotional financial decision.

College planning gives agents an opportunity to demonstrate the human value of their office.

That human connection can lead to deeper relationships, additional opportunities to serve the household, and stronger long-term retention.

For Financial Professionals

Add College Expertise Without Becoming the College Expert

College costs can affect nearly every part of a family’s financial plan. Families may make decisions about savings, investments, borrowing, and college selection without understanding how those choices work together.

Champion College Planning can help your clients:

  • Understand the true cost of the colleges they are considering

  • Evaluate financial fit before applications and commitments are made

  • Navigate financial aid and merit-aid opportunities

  • Review financial-aid award letters and potential appeals

  • Develop a college payment strategy

  • Avoid making college decisions that unnecessarily disrupt retirement and other long-term goals

You remain responsible for investment management, retirement planning, tax coordination, insurance, and the broader financial plan. Champion College Planning provides the specialized college-planning support.

Turn the College Cost Into an Actionable Financial Plan

A financial professional cannot build an effective college-funding strategy without first understanding what college is likely to cost the family.

Champion College Planning helps the family estimate the total cost across all four years, compare the likely net cost of different colleges, evaluate potential financial aid and merit scholarships, and identify the remaining amount the family may need to fund.

We also identify college-specific planning considerations that may affect the family’s Student Aid Index and FAFSA-based financial-aid eligibility. These may include the timing and ownership of income and assets, which assets are reported, how student and parent resources are treated, and when financial decisions are made.

Once the college-cost analysis is complete, Champion College Planning brings the family’s financial professional back into the conversation. With the family’s permission, we provide the advisor with the projected costs, funding gap, timing, and relevant financial-aid considerations.

The financial professional can then evaluate how to incorporate those needs into the family’s broader financial plan, including:

  • Cash flow

  • College savings

  • Investments

  • Retirement planning

  • Insurance

  • Tax planning

  • Appropriate borrowing

Champion College Planning provides the college-specific analysis. The financial professional determines and implements the broader financial strategy within their area of expertise.

This gives the advisor meaningful numbers to plan around, helps the family avoid making financial decisions without understanding their potential FAFSA impact, and keeps the financial professional at the center of the long-term client relationship.

For Tax Professionals

Connect Tax Decisions With the College Plan

Tax professionals often see the financial information that ultimately affects a family’s college-planning options, Student Aid Index, and FAFSA-based financial-aid eligibility.

Families may make decisions involving income, capital gains, business earnings, retirement distributions, asset ownership, education tax credits, scholarships, or 529 plan withdrawals without understanding how those decisions could interact with college costs and financial aid.

Champion College Planning helps identify the college-specific questions and potential FAFSA considerations before important financial decisions are made.

Depending on the family’s situation, this may include:

  • Identifying the income years that could affect future FAFSA filings

  • Understanding which parent and student resources may be reported

  • Coordinating the timing of income and financial decisions

  • Reviewing the projected four-year college cost and funding gap

  • Identifying potential interactions among financial aid, scholarships, 529 plans, and education tax benefits

  • Flagging issues that should be reviewed by a qualified tax professional

Once the college analysis is complete, Champion College Planning brings the family back to its tax professional. With the family’s permission, we provide the relevant college-cost projections, timing, and financial-aid considerations.

The tax professional can then evaluate the family’s actual tax situation, determine which strategies are appropriate, and provide any tax advice or implementation.

Champion College Planning does not prepare tax returns or replace the family’s tax professional. We provide the college-specific context that can help the tax professional ask better questions and make more informed recommendations.

Add Value Beyond Tax Season

College planning gives tax professionals a reason to engage clients proactively instead of limiting the relationship to preparing and filing an annual return.

A partnership with Champion College Planning can help your office:

  • Create planning conversations outside of tax season

  • Help clients understand how tax decisions may affect college planning

  • Identify issues before a tax return has already been filed

  • Strengthen relationships with parents and their children

  • Provide a trusted resource for college-related questions

  • Differentiate the practice from tax preparers focused only on completing returns

The tax professional remains at the center of the tax relationship. Champion College Planning provides the specialized college-planning support.

How Champion College Planning Helps Families

Depending on the family’s needs, support may include:

  • College affordability and financial-fit analysis

  • College admissions strategy

  • Student positioning

  • College-list development and evaluation

  • FAFSA and CSS Profile guidance

  • Merit-aid and financial-aid strategy

  • Financial-aid award review

  • Appeal guidance

  • College payment strategy

  • Student-athlete recruiting coordination

Families can receive focused help in one area or coordinated support across both the admissions and financial sides of the college decision.

Why Matt Understands Your Practice

Before founding Champion College Planning, Matt Sosland spent nearly nine years with Rocket Mortgage, including four years in the Rocket Pro Originate channel.

In that role, Matt worked directly with mortgage-licensed insurance agents, financial professionals, and Realtors across the country, including partners affiliated with State Farm and American Family Insurance. His work combined direct mortgage guidance with long-term business relationship development.

Matt’s most extensive experience was working with insurance offices. He learned how an agency operates, how office teams communicate with clients, why serving multiple legitimate needs can strengthen retention, and how quickly a relationship can become vulnerable when the conversation is limited to the price of a single policy.

Matt helped individual insurance offices use mortgage solutions as another tool in their tool belt when appropriate. A cash flow analysis review could open a broader conversation about the client’s home equity, debt, monthly expenses, upcoming needs, and overall financial picture.

That gave agents an opportunity to move beyond the usual, “I’m sorry, insurance rates went up,” conversation. Instead of allowing the relationship to be defined by an increase of a few dollars per month, the agent could step back, understand what was happening within the household, and help the client look at the bigger picture.

Sometimes a mortgage solution created an opportunity to improve the client’s cash flow or address another financial need. Even when a mortgage was not the answer, the conversation helped the agent demonstrate greater value, identify legitimate needs across multiple lines of business, and build a deeper relationship with the household.

Through that experience, Matt developed a firsthand understanding of how a professional practice grows and retains clients. Sustainable growth is not just about completing another transaction. It comes from keeping good clients, understanding the full household, creating timely reasons to reconnect, and providing value beyond the professional’s primary service.

Those principles apply beyond insurance.

A financial advisor strengthens the relationship by helping a client connect college costs with investments, retirement, cash flow, insurance, and other long-term goals.

A tax professional strengthens the relationship by helping a client understand how today’s tax decisions may affect future college costs, financial aid, education tax benefits, and the family’s broader financial plan.

The business models may be different, but the underlying relationship is similar. Insurance agents, financial advisors, and tax professionals all benefit when they can:

  • Provide value beyond a single product or transaction

  • Identify additional needs within the household

  • Create proactive conversations around major life events

  • Bring specialized resources to the client

  • Serve multiple generations of the same family

  • Protect and deepen the primary client relationship

  • Give clients more reasons to remain with their office

Champion College Planning brings that model to one of the largest emotional and financial decisions a family will face.

College planning gives the professional a meaningful reason to engage parents, understand what is happening within the household, and help the family access specialized guidance. Champion College Planning handles the college-specific analysis while the insurance agent, financial advisor, or tax professional remains responsible for the work within their own area of expertise.

Champion College Planning does not take over the client relationship. We provide specialized support, communicate clearly, and return the family to the referring professional with better information and a clearer understanding of the decisions that need to be made.

This is not simply a referral arrangement. It is a partnership designed to help the professional add value, create new opportunities, serve more of the household, and strengthen long-term client retention.

Give Your Clients Another Reason to Value Your Office

If you serve families with college-bound children, Champion College Planning can help you provide guidance around one of their most important decisions while creating stronger relationships and new opportunities for your practice.
